How to get clear skin through Ayurveda?

1. Understand your Ayurvedic skin type

Our Ayurvedic skin type is defined through the dominance of doshas present in our bodies. Each type of skin is treated with different herbs. Hence, this initial step is quite vital.

Vata dominant - Such people are more likely to have a dry type of skin that is prone to flakiness, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Pitta dominant - People who are pitta dominant are less tolerant to heat. Their skin will be more prone to acne, sun spots, tanning, and sunburns.

Kapha dominant - These people have enlarged skin pores and tend to have dull and oily skin with cystic acne.

2. Herbs for glowing skin

At the initial level, Ayurveda primarily focuses on purifying the blood as it has direct links to your skin’s health. For this very purpose, combination Rakta shodhak (blood cleansers), as well as Rakta Prasadaka (blood soothing herbs), are used to promote clean and clear skin. Niba (neem), Haridra (Turmeric), Manjistha (Indian madder), Daruharidra (tree turmeric), and Bakuchi (Psoralea corylifolia) are the examples of such herbs.

After the initial stage, the focus of Ayurveda shifts to increasing the natural glow of the skin. For this, ’Kanti Vardhaka’ herbs (glow enhancing herbs) are used. Some of them are:

Daru Haridra (tree turmeric)- Balances Pitta and Kapha doshas

Chandana(sandalwood) - Balances Pitta and Kapha doshas

Haldi (turmeric) - Balances all three doshas
